SEPTEMBER 27
Moby Mart initial funding
an instant success.

Yesterday, September 26, Moby Mart offered selected Investors the chance to be be part of Moby Mart. In less than four hours the applications to invest exceeded the shares offered and after one day the offer was 232% funded.
“We are very happy that we reached our goal in this short time, but what makes us even happier is that our vision about the future of retail is shared by hundreds of investors”

Per Cromwell

The raised capital will primarily be used for launching a number of test stores in order to further refine the Moby Mart technology.

The staff-less retail market is rapidly evolving, fueled by the need for more efficient retail. Staffless retail systems are rapidly evolving. However, 99,9% of the players on the market haven’t implemented any real solutions yet. In this context Moby is unique with the mobility concept and numerous patents (pending) protecting the logistics behind this. Not to mention that Moby Mart was first to market with an app powered store.
We can only repeat what other have stated before us. The next five years in retail, will bring more change than the previous fifty years has.

SEPTEMBER 26
Futuristic Supermarket Moby Mart launching seed round.

After successfully launching the world’s first staffless store in 2016 and the first mobile supermarket in 2017, YC startup Wheelys Café will spin off the successful concept “Moby” into a company in its own right.

The retail industry stands before the biggest revolution in a hundred years. We believe the key lies in logistics. With the Moby Mart we turn the traditional delivery truck into a staffless store. Doing this reduces costs, and adds convenience.

The biggest costs in retail are staff, restocking and rent.
A Moby cuts all these costs. Since the delivery truck IS the store, there is no need for restocking. Any parking space will be a store. Finally, the a Moby is totally staffless. What does this mean?
It means that we can bring world class stores to tens of
thousands of communities- where before there was none."

Per Cromwell, CEO Moby AB

“The notion that physical retail will disappear is nonsense. The traditional store is really nothing but a logistics hub for deliveries of physical goods, where the consumer carries the logistics costs. People will always want to buy ice-cream at the corner store. You might replace the store with some dude driving the ice-cream to your door, but even then, it is all about logistics.

“Traditional stores make sense for products that are sold to settle an immediate want, like ice-cream, a pizza or even an iPhone charger; but less so for products that are sold less often, like rare books. The Moby sells the ice-cream, but it also delivers the rare book. It is the first store adapted for the Internet age.”

Hannah Mazetti, inventor Moby Mart.

The Moby Mart was developed by Hannah and Tomas Mazetti from Wheelys Café, a Y Combinator startup led by the charismatic Maria De La Croix. Since the Moby now has grown too big to be housed inside Wheelys, it will be turned into a company of its own, and will raise money from investors. This company will be led by Per Cromwell, the designer behind the Moby.

“By turning Moby into a company of its own, Wheelys can continue the incredible growth of the brand and the community, while giving Moby legs of its own. The Moby team is truly world leaders, and just the fact that they’ve sold two Mobys says it all. I can’t but congratulate the investors, partners and customers that understand this vision!”

Maria De La Croix

Yours Sincerely

JUN 13
Unstaffed retailing gets moving with Moby Mart.

Today Moby Mart - an autonomous unmanned store on wheels - takes sight on the future of retail. This is a store that comes to the customers instead of the other way around. Always available, everywhere.

By putting the store on wheels retailers can avoid the increasingly high rental prices in many cities. Instead of leasing a brick-and-mortar store they can patrol the bus in the center during the busy hours, stopping for customers by the sidewalk. This turns every parking space in the world into a potential new 24-hour store.

The Moby Mart can also drive from a commercial area during the day to a residential area during evenings and restock in a central location during the night. Or it can move from village to village to aggregate the customer base, making even the smallest of places viable for a store. It is, of course, electric to reduce both sound and air pollution.

For the customer, it’s a familiar experience. Just like with Wheelys other unmanned solutions customers use an app to locate and enter the store, scan the items they want to buy and pay with a click. But unlike the fixed retail spaces, the Moby Mart can come to the customer if they call it over through the app.
Yours Sincerely

The first version of the bus is deployed in Shanghai, China where it will run in test mode during the summer, starting today. In the autumn, more buses will be created with an updated tech portfolio to further push the retailing experience. The bus will be ready for entrepreneurs around the world when self-driving solutions become legal.

The solution is built by Wheelys Inc in cooperation with Hefei University and Himalafy. Wheelys has quickly turned into a technology leader in the hot unstaffed retailing space. By acquiring the first-to-market company Näraffär and then debuting the first 24/7 store in China, Wheelys are pushing the boundaries forward in a lightning fast pace.

Quotes:

“This is a huge leap closer to my original vision of retailing for everyone, everywhere.”, Robert Ilijason, Founder of Näraffär and Himalafy

“In the coming decades, retail as we know it will disappear. Stores will become powered by apps, they will become accessible 24/7, and they will become mobile.”
